The challenge is keeping that sound inside the room. Knowing how to soundproof a simulator room lets you practice on your schedule while making the space more comfortable for everyone else at home.
The best approach is not simply hanging a few foam panels and hoping for the best. Soundproofing is about stopping noise from traveling through doors, walls, ceilings, and floors. Acoustic treatment is about improving the way the room sounds inside. A premium indoor golf setup often benefits from both, but they solve different problems.
Start With the Loudest Parts of Your Simulator Setup
Before buying materials, identify what is actually creating the disturbance. In most golf simulator rooms, the impact screen is the primary source of sharp, repeated noise. A golf ball carries real energy into the screen, particularly with driver and long-iron shots. The club striking the mat can also create a noticeable thump, while speaker volume, simulator fans, and player conversation add to the overall sound level.
Where that sound goes matters just as much as how loud it is. A simulator in a detached garage has a different sound-control challenge than one over a finished basement, beside a nursery, or below a bedroom. If noise is escaping through one hollow-core door, treating the entire room first is an expensive way to avoid the obvious fix.

Add mass to shared walls and ceilings

The goal is enough tension for a clean image and dependable ball containment, with enough give to soften the impact.
Keep the screen positioned according to the enclosure manufacturer's guidance, and make sure it is not pressed tightly against a hard wall. A little clearance behind the screen reduces the chance of balls transferring force directly into the structure. Side and top enclosure material also helps contain both errant shots and reflected sound.

Improve the Room Acoustics After Isolation

A simulator beneath a child's bedroom may justify a larger renovation that includes solid-core doors, insulated cavities, upgraded drywall, and ceiling decoupling.
Room height and swing clearance should remain the priority. Do not add a thick suspended ceiling or bulky wall treatment if it compromises a safe, confident driver swing. Similarly, do not shrink the enclosure area so much that the screen sits too close to a hard surface. A quieter room is only valuable if it still supports realistic, unrestricted practice.
Consider the HVAC system early in the planning process. Air vents can carry sound quickly between rooms, yet a sealed simulator room can become uncomfortable after an hour of play.
